Around 1097-1154
King of England. Reigned 1135-54. Born of the French Count of Blois. Nephew of King Henry I of England. After Henry's death in 1135, he claimed the throne with the support of the Londoners and started an 18-year civil war with Henry's daughter Matilda, who claimed the throne. He was briefly captured by Matilda's side, but after his release he continued fighting, causing great unrest in the country. A peace treaty was concluded in 1153 and he was recognized as king, but he died the following year and Matilda's son succeeded him as king.

イングランド王。在位1135‐54年。フランスのブロア伯家の出身。イングランド王ヘンリー1世の甥に当たる。1135年ヘンリーが死ぬと，ロンドン市民の支持を得て王を称し，ヘンリーの娘で王位を主張するマティルダとの間に18年間の内乱を引き起こす。一時マティルダ側に捕らえられたが，釈放後も抗争をつづけ，国内は大いに乱れた。53年和約が成立，王位を認められたが，翌年死に，マティルダの子がヘンリー2世として王位を継いだ。
