Historically, many composers in Europe (as well as America and Australia) have used elements of folk music in their compositions. Notable examples include Telemann in the Baroque period, Liszt and Grieg in the Romantic period, and more recent composers such as Vaughan Williams of England, Bartók of Hungary, Enesco of Romania, Copland of America, and Percy Aldridge Grainger (1882-1961) of Australia. However, in recent years, in addition to this trend, musicians who are involved in folk music have been seen to create new folk music by incorporating the idioms of old music that has been written down and modern popular music.
