...Russians have long known foods such as black bread made from rye, porridge made from various grains, and kissel, a gelatinous food made from starch, which appear in chronicles from the 12th century onwards. As for drinks, kvass, made from fermented malt, mead, and beer were popular, with vodka joining them somewhat later.
