Prior to this, Venizelos was ousted in the November 1920 election, and Constantine, who was restored to the throne, was also driven out, and Georgios II (reigned 1922-24, 1935-47) ascended to the throne, but the republicans won the general election in 1924 and the monarchy was abolished.
