Regency style - Regency style

Regency style - Regency style
Regency generally means a regency. In art, it is used as a general term to refer to the taste for architecture and furniture during the regency and reign of King George IV of England (1811-30). Chronologically it overlaps with the final phase of the Georgian era, but stylistically it represents the second stage of the Classical Revival that preceded it, and runs parallel to the transition from the Directoire style to the Empire style in France. George IV, known as a free-spirited prince, had already developed an interest in the culture and customs of Greece, Rome, Egypt, the Middle East, and China, but he promoted this exoticism by employing the inventive architect J. Nash.
