A former town in Ono County, southwest of Oita Prefecture. Most of the area is forest and wilderness, with cultivated land in the south. Rice, shiitake mushrooms, and beef cattle are thriving here. Forestry is also practiced. It is within the commercial area of Taketa City, and the Toyohashi Main Line runs through it.
