...A play. Also called Otokodate Harusamegasa. Written by Fukuchi Ochi. First performed at the Tokyo Kabukiza in April 1897. Oguchiya Kyou was played by Ichikawa Danjūrō IX, Itsumi Tesshinsai by Ichikawa Ennosuke I (later Danshiro II), Keisei Usugumo by Ichikawa Onnatora II (later Monnosuke VI), Keisei Katsuragi by Nakamura Fukusuke IV (later Utaemon V), and others. This is an adaptation of Ochi's own work, Novel Harusame Kasa (A Novel of Spring Rain Umbrella), for Danjūrō, and is based on Oguchiya Kyou, one of the 18 great masters of Edo.
