This book is a compilation of Sontoku's words and deeds, compiled by Fukuzumi Masaaki, a disciple of Ninomiya Sontoku, from Nyoze Gamonroku, which he wrote down during the four years he lived around his master. The main series was published in five volumes between 1884 and 1887. The main series contains 233 stories, while the sequel (1928) contains 48 stories. It is a guide to understanding Sontoku's whole picture, conveying his views on nature, life, and history, as well as his philosophy of gratitude, in a simple and unselfish way.
