Freeway

…In Japan, expressways are commonly called highways, but highways originally mean public roads. In the United States, roads with complete access restrictions are also called freeways. The first expressway in Japan was a section of the Meishin Expressway (Kuritto to Amagasaki) that opened in July 1963, but the Tomei Expressway, Chuo Expressway, and Tohoku Expressway that were completed afterwards are also highways that can only be entered and exited through interchanges that connect to general roads, and are equivalent to American freeways. …
