flying gurnard

...A general term for marine fishes belonging to the family Scorpaeniformes, or one of them. This species is named after its long pectoral fins like the wings of a cicada, and its English name "flying gurnard" comes from its habit of flying over the sea. Three species of gurnard are found in the waters off Japan: the Dactyloptena orientalis , the Okisemi-gurnard D. gilberti , and the spotted Dactyloptena peterseni .
