...The cruise ship that connects to Kushimoto, 2km away at sea, is famous for the Kushimoto-bushi song, but was replaced by a ferry in 1972. It is part of the Yoshino-Kumano National Park, and the eastern coast is known as Umikongo, with its beautiful sea cliffs. At Kashinozaki on the eastern edge, there is a lighthouse that was erected in 1870 (Meiji 3), and a monument commemorating the incident in 1990 when a Turkish warship was lost, with 587 people killed.
