...In the royal tombs of Abydos, a simple mastaba was built with a pair of stone stelae and an offering table in front of it, and a wall encircled the entire structure. Two niches were carved into the walls of the mastaba, and sometimes a false door was added. In addition, some mastabas had a complex palace facade with niches on the entire exterior wall, making them dummies of the palaces of the deceased's ancestors.
