FMEA is a method primarily used in reliability analysis, and is a qualitative method for examining the failure modes (inputs) and their effects on the system (outputs) for each component in order to identify imperfections and potential defects in the design. If FMEA has already been performed in reliability analysis, it is called a "failure hazard analysis" if the criticality is reevaluated from a safety standpoint and additional analysis necessary for safety is added.
