…Years of birth and death unknown. In Sanskrit, he is called Mahādeva. He was the teacher of King Ashoka's son Mahinda (3rd century BCE), and is said to have been the first to go to Mahisamaṇḍala (south of the Narmada River) when King Ashoka, following the advice of his teacher Moggaliputta Tissa, dispatched Buddhist missionaries to various parts of India.
