For example, the "versus Fescennini" (hereafter, all Latin spellings such as "play" are in the singular), the "satura", and the "fabula Atellana" from the Campania region of southern Italy were examples of these folk performing arts, consisting of singing, dancing, music, recitation, and humorous gestures, which were the primitive forms of theatre in the Italian peninsula. It is possible that it was only with this soil of folk and simple theatre that Greek theatre succeeded in becoming Romanized.
