Japan Travel Bureau

Japan Travel Bureau Foundation, abbreviated as JTBF, is a research institute representing Japan in the field of travel and tourism. Since its establishment in March 1912 (Meiji 45) as Japan Tourist Bureau for the purpose of welcoming foreign visitors to Japan, it has undergone several reorganizations and name changes, and in 1945 (Showa 20) became the Japan Travel Bureau Foundation. In addition to research and studies on travel and tourism, it is also involved in public interest activities to promote tourism culture, such as holding symposiums and seminars, issuing publications, and operating the "Travel Library." In April 2012 (Heisei 24), it became a public interest foundation. In 1963, the sales department was separated to form Japan Travel Bureau Co., Ltd., which became Japan's largest travel agency and changed its name to JTB Corporation in 2001.

日本を代表する旅行・観光分野の研究調査機関。英語表記はJapan Travel Bureau Foundation、略称JTBF。訪日外国人の接遇を目的として1912年（明治45）3月に設立されたジャパン・ツーリスト・ビューロー以来、数度にわたる改組や名称変更が行われ、1945年（昭和20）財団法人日本交通公社となる。旅行・観光に関する研究調査に加えて、シンポジウム・セミナーなどの開催、出版物の刊行、「旅の図書館」の運営など、観光文化の振興のための公益面での活動を行っており、2012年（平成24）4月に公益財団法人に移行している。なお、1963年に営業部門を分離して設立された株式会社日本交通公社は、日本最大の旅行業者となり、2001年株式会社ジェイティービーと改称した。
