A god in Norse mythology. Born in the beginning from the daughters of nine giants, he is a watchman among the Asa. He has a mansion called Himinbjorg near the bridge called Bilrost, which stretches from the earth to the sky, from which he looks out over the whole world, and the sound of his trumpet, the Gjallarhorn, can be heard throughout the world. According to the "League Song" in the Edda, Heimdal had three sons, Thral, ​​Karl, and Jarl, with three women, Edda, Anma, and Mogil, who became the ancestors of the three classes of slaves, free peasants, and nobles. At the end of the world, he raised and blew the golden horn hidden under the world tree Yggdrasil, calling the Asa to battle, and he fought Loki to a draw.

北欧神話の神。原初に9人の巨人の娘から生まれたとされ、アサ神族のなかの見張り役。地上から天上に架かる橋ビルロストのそばに館(やかた)ヒミンビョルグをもち、そこから全世界を眺めるが、彼のもつギャラルホルンというラッパの音は、世界の隅々まで聞こえた。『エッダ』の「リーグの歌」によると、ヘイムダルはエッダ、アンマ、モージルの3人の女との間にそれぞれ3人の息子スレール、カルル、ヤルルをもうけたが、これが奴隷、自由農民、貴族の三階級の祖となったという。世界の終末には、世界樹イグドラシルの下に隠していた黄金の角笛(つのぶえ)を高々と上げて吹き、アサ神族たちを戦いに呼び集め、自らはロキを相手に戦って相討ちとなる。
