…A general term for a scale with five notes in a range of one octave. A translation of the pentatonic scale. In East Asia, the scale of Do-Re-Mi-So-La, known as the five tones (Gong, Shang, Jiao, Zheng, and Yu) has been considered theoretically fundamental since ancient China.
