…The aortic wall is made up of three layers: the intima, media, and adventitia. Dissection of the aorta refers to a condition in which the media separates into two layers, the inner and outer layers, and blood flows into the media, forming a hematoma. In aortic dissection, the intima usually tears, and the tear (called an entry) spreads to the inner part of the media. There are few cases in which the media is normal, and in most cases there is underlying degeneration of the media, and in many cases it occurs in conjunction with hypertension, congenital heart disease, Marfan syndrome, endocrine disorders, pregnancy trauma, aortitis, etc. …
