かり‐うち【樗蒲】

〘名〙 (「かり」を投げて勝負をきめる意) 中国から伝来した遊び。木でつくった楕円形の平たい四つのさいころを、一面を白く、他面を黒く塗り、そのうちの二つの黒い面に牛を、他の二つの白い面にきじを描く。これを投げ、出た面の組合せで勝負を争うもの。また、その遊びをする人。ちょぼ。※涅槃経集解巻十一平安初期点(850頃)「樗蒲(カリウチ)し囲棊し諸の工巧を学びむものぞ」
