artificial pregnancy

...a method of artificially breeding livestock, in which a fertilized egg is taken from a female livestock and implanted in the uterus of another female livestock, and the female uses her womb to raise the fetus and give birth to the livestock. It is also called artificial pregnancy, artificial conception, or embryo transfer. It was first successfully attempted in the UK with rabbits at the end of the 19th century, but it was not until 1951 that it was successfully used with livestock, particularly cattle.
