Manager. Born in Tokyo. Graduated from the Department of Commerce, Faculty of Economics, Tokyo Imperial University in 1927 (Showa 2), he joined the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and worked at the government-run Yahata Steel Works. The steelworks became Nippon Steel in 1934 as a result of the Great Steel Merger, but in 1950 Nippon Steel was dissolved and became Yawata Steel. He became vice president of Yawata Steel in 1961 and president in 1962. When the company merged with Fuji Steel in 1970 to form Nippon Steel, he became its president. In 1973, he became chairman. He served as chairman of the Japan Iron and Steel Exporters Association in 1953, chairman of the Japan Iron and Steel Federation in 1965, vice chairman of the Japan Business Federation (now the Japan Business Federation) in 1968, and chairman in 1980.
