The empty bowl hermit - Karahachi Sennin

...He is a legendary figure who is said to have been one of the Gohyakuji Myo-sen of Mount Vulture in Tenjiku and came to Japan around the time of Emperor Kokutoku (reigned 645-654). He was a master of the "Hibachi no Ho" (the flying bowl technique) and was also called the Kubachi Sennin (empty bowl hermit). The document from the end of the Heian period at Kiyomizu-dera Temple on Mount Ontake (Yasu-cho, Kato-gun) is the oldest documentary historical material.
