European Community . An organization made up of the EEC (European Economic Community), ECSC (European Coal and Steel Community), and Euratom (European Atomic Energy Community). Founded in 1967 by six countries: France, West Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Britain, Ireland, and Denmark joined in 1973, Greece in 1981, and Spain and Portugal in 1986.
