In art, in addition to inheriting the ideas and methods of Duchamp's "ready-made" and Chirico's "metaphysical painting," Ernst's "collage" and "frottage," which were considered equivalent to "automatic description," made it possible to express surrealism without using words. Methods such as Miro and Masson's "automatic drawing," Man Ray's "rayogram," Magritte's "description method," Dali's "symbolic object" and "paranoid critical method," and Oscar Dominguez's (1906-57) "decalcomanie" also produced many important works. These not only dramatically developed the ideas of image and object, but also expanded the realm of so-called "poetry" and "fantasy," and attempted to renew the nature of literary and artistic activities by exploring the possibility of objective creation that goes beyond individuality.

…A glossy piece of paper is coated with fluid paint, another piece of paper is pressed against it, and then the paper is peeled off, resulting in a variety of randomly generated image shapes. This technique was first tried by Oscar Dominguez (1906-57) around 1935, and was named “decalcomania without an object.” Images reminiscent of rocks, flowers, water, snow, lava, etc. appeared, and were later used by many surrealists, with a compilation published in issue 8 of the journal “Minotaur.” …
