...Generally speaking, the Eastern branch has been greatly simplified, and therefore is relatively easy to study both synchronically and diachronically, but the Western branch is lagging behind due to the large differences between the languages ​​and the small number of researchers. The reconstruction of Proto-Austronesian was tentatively completed by the German O. Dempwolff (1934-38), but this reconstruction was limited to the fields of phonology and vocabulary. Subsequent research has been carried out mainly by Dyen and R. Blust, who have made revisions to Dempwolff's reconstruction.
