Lead plate - Enban

Japanese: 鉛版 - えんばん

A type of printing plate used in printing; a reproduction of a typesetting plate made to protect against wear and tear caused by mass printing. Also called a stereotype. The paper form is placed in a mold and molten lead alloy is poured into it to cast it. The lead alloy is an alloy of lead, tin, and antimony, just like type. Flatbed printing presses use flat cast lead plates, while rotary printing presses use cylindrical round lead plates.

印刷に用いられる版の一種で，大量印刷による版の磨滅にそなえて作られる活字組版の複製。ステレオタイプ（ステロ版）とも。紙型を鋳型に入れ，溶融した鉛版合金を注入して鋳造する。鉛版合金は活字と同じく鉛とスズとアンチモンの合金。平台印刷機では平らに鋳造した平鉛版が，輪転印刷機では円筒形の丸鉛版が用いられる。
