Enterprise statistics are statistically understood by focusing on enterprises, which are the basic actors in economic activity, and in a broad sense include statistics by industry, but usually, they are classified into (1) those that look at the corporate structure aspect such as the characteristics of the enterprises (number of enterprises, number of employees, management organization), (2) those that look at the corporate management aspect by using financial statements, etc., and (3) those that look at the corporate behavior aspect such as capital investment, etc. As for (1), there is the "Establishment Statistics" by the Prime Minister's Office. It covers establishments in all industries in Japan and clarifies the number of establishments and number of employees by industry, region, size, etc.

企業統計は，経済活動の基本主体である企業に着目してこれを統計的に把握するものであり，広い意味では産業別の統計も含まれるが，普通は，(1)企業の特性(企業数，従業者数，経営組織)等の企業構造面からみたもの，(2)財務諸表等の利用により企業経営面からみたもの，(3)設備投資等の企業行動面からみたもの，などである。　(1)に関するものとして総理府の〈事業所統計〉がある。日本の全産業の事業所を対象とし，業種別，地域別，規模別等に事業所数，従業者数等を明らかにしている。
