A town in Ishikawa County in the southeastern part of Fukushima Prefecture. It was incorporated from Higashi Shirakawa County in 1994. The entire town is in mountainous areas in the Abukuma Highlands, with lowlands along the Samegawa River and the main settlement of Takanuki. The town produces rice, konjac, wild plants, and green onions, and is a thriving cedar forest. It also produces lumber and livestock. 福島県南東部,石川郡の町。1994年東白川郡から編入。全町阿武隈(あぶくま)高地中の山地で,鮫川沿いに低地があり,主集落竹貫(たかぬき)がある。米,コンニャク,山菜,ネギを産し,杉の造林が盛んで製材,畜産も行う。東日本大震災で,町内において被害が発生。163.29km2。6030人(2010)。
