…In the early days, stage plays were broadcast as is, but in 1924, the first full-scale work written for radio was broadcast. It was Danger by Richard Hughes, which was adapted and broadcast in Japan the following year on August 13, 1925 (the Japanese title was In the Coal Mine). This radio drama succeeded in portraying the darkness of the coal mine, the sounds of explosions and gushing water, and other things that could not be clearly expressed in stage plays or films, as if they were real life. This established radio drama as a new dramatic art form that takes advantage of the characteristics of radio to create a world of sound. …
