He wore the lion's skin and made the lion's head with its mouth open a helmet. He then defeated the king of Orchomenus, from whom Thebes was obliged to pay annual tribute, and in return received the princess Megara as a wife from the Theban king Kreōn. A few years later, he was driven mad by Hera and killed the children he had with Megara.
