...A general term for freshwater fish of the genus Carassius, family Cyprinidae, order Cypriniformes. They are broadly divided into two species: the Asian crucian carp Carassius auratus (including the domesticated goldfish) and the European crucian carp C. carasius (English name: crucian carp). Asian crucian carps vary widely and are divided into several subspecies, but researchers do not necessarily agree on their classification.
