…He later worked on calculating the orbits and positions of asteroids and other stars, and eventually became famous as a celestial orbiter and a calculator of predicted positions. In 1907-08, he worked with PH Cowell to trace the return of Halley's Comet back to 240 BC and to match it with ancient observational records. The predicted position he calculated for the 1910 return was only three days earlier than the actual perihelion date. For this work, the two were awarded the Lindemann Prize by the German Astronomical Society and an honorary doctorate from Oxford University. …
