...German forester. Graduated from the University of Jena. In 1810, he became head of the Taranto Forestry School. He argued that forests are not only useful for timber production, but also have protective effects such as protection from wind, heat, sand, and snow, and mitigating climate change, and that it is important to manage forests with these points in mind. He planned to maximize sustainable timber production with the minimum of expenses, and also focused on the impact that forests have on society, arguing that forest management should be considered from the perspective of how it would be most beneficial to human society. ...
