In the renal cortex, there are many spherical structures called renal corpuscles (Latin name: corpusculum Malpighii, English name: Malpighian corpuscles). Blood is filtered here and becomes primary urine, which is then secreted and reabsorbed in the subsequent tubules and emptied into the collecting duct.
