Robert Redfield

Born: December 4, 1897 in Chicago
[Died] October 16, 1958, Chicago American cultural anthropologist. He studied law at the University of Chicago but switched to anthropology, and in 1928 conducted field research on local communities in Mexico. He also conducted field research in the Yucatan Peninsula, India, China, and other places, studying issues of peasant society and urbanization, and proposed the concept of folk society. His major works include The Folk Culture of Yucatan (1941) and Peasant Society and Culture (56).
