[Establishment of pregnancy]
Pregnancy occurs through four stages: (1) egg production and ovulation, (2) sperm production and ejaculation, (3) fertilization, and (4) implantation of the fertilized egg. The phenomenon in which a fertilized egg implants in the lining of the uterus is called conception. (For the above processes (1) and (2), please refer to the entries on "egg," "ovulation," "sperm," and "ejaculation.") (1) Fertilization Normally, sperm released into the vagina during sexual intercourse are stored in the vaginal fornix, forming a semen pool, and the sperm in the semen enter the cervix by their own motility.
