Stacked leaf springs - Kasaneitabane (English spelling) Leaf spring

A spring made by stacking several to a dozen flat plates made of spring steel. When a load is applied to the end of a cantilever beam (a beam with one end fixed) which has a constant thickness but narrows in width towards the end, the bending stress is constant in the longitudinal direction and of equal strength. This makes it effective for use as a spring, but wide plates have drawbacks such as taking up space, so stacked leaf springs are made by cutting them to a constant width and stacking them together. They are used in areas such as supporting the bodies of railway cars and automobiles. Since the spring will bend when supporting the body of the car, most are supported at both ends with a pre-curved end.

ばね鋼材でつくった板状の平板を数枚ないし十数枚重ね合わせたばね。厚さが一定で幅が先端に向かって狭くなる片持ち梁(ばり)（一端を固定した梁）の先端に荷重を加えるときの曲げ応力は、長手方向に一定で、平等な強さとなる。そのため、これをばねとして用いると有効であるが、幅の広い板は場所をとるなどの不都合があるので、これを一定の幅に切断して重ね合わせたものが重ね板ばねである。鉄道車両や自動車の車体を支える部分などに使用される。車体を支持すると、ばねはたわむので、あらかじめ反りを与えた両端支持の形のものが多い。
