Commendatio

…the translation of commendatio, generally referring to the act of entrusting oneself to the protection and control of another and establishing a relationship of dominance and submission between the other party, but it is particularly relevant in relation to the act of establishing a lord-vassal relationship in European feudalism. That is, the establishment of a lord-vassal relationship was carried out by the one who was to be a vassal going to the one who was to be a lord, taking an oath of good faith (fidelitas) to the lord, placing both hands together, and the lord enveloping the vassal's hands with his own.
