…This tradition was continued after World War II by Alexandru Ivasiuc (1933-77), Eugen Barbu (1924- ), and Ion Bǎieşu (1933- ). The lineage of fantasy novels developed through the works of prewar writers such as Gala Galaction (1879-1961), who was also an Orthodox priest, Vasile Voiculescu (1884-1963), Pavel Dan (1907-31), the religious scholar Eliade, who was active abroad after World War II, and science fiction writers Vladimir Colin (1921-91) and Ştefan Bǎnulescu (1929- ). In the 20th century, Alges pioneered an uncharted territory with his avant-garde poetry, and other poets included philosopher and poet L. Braga, impressionist-leaning George Bacovia (1881-1957), mathematician and poet Ion Barbu (1895-1961), famous for his prose poetry Adrian Maniu (1891-1968), and avant-garde Urmuz (real name Dimitrie Ionescu-Buzǎu.
