An evergreen climbing woody plant of the Atractylaceae family that can climb to a height of several meters (illustration). It is also called a vine creeper. The leaves are opposite, hairless, thin, leathery, oblong-ovate, and 5-15 cm long. A raceme is borne at the top of the stem, producing yellow flowers about 2 cm in diameter. It is often found near the coasts from Okinawa to tropical Asia and even Australia, and is sometimes cultivated for decorative purposes. The Atractylaceae family is a group of woody plants common in tropical regions, especially South America, and is considered to be close to the Rutaceae, Cerataceae, and Meliaceae families.
