…French portrait painter. Born in Tours. His father Jean Clouet (c. 1485-c. 1541) was a painter from Flanders who became a naturalized French citizen. In 1541 he succeeded his father as royal painter. His only signed works are Portrait of Pierre Couto, the Apothecary (1562) and Bather.
