…French portrait painter. Born in Tours. His father Jean Clouet (c. 1485-c. 1541) was a painter from Flanders who became a naturalized French citizen. In 1541 he succeeded his father as royal painter. His only signed works are Portrait of Pierre Couto, the Apothecary (1562) and Bather. He served four kings and painted royalty and nobility, and many works are thought to be his, including the oil painting Portrait of Henry II (1559) and the drawing Portrait of Charles IX (1566). …

…フランスの肖像画家。トゥール生れ。父ジャンJean Clouet(1485ころ‐1541ころ)はフランドル出身の画家で，フランスに帰化した。1541年父より王室画家の地位を継ぐ。署名作品は《薬種商ピエール･クートの肖像》(1562)と《浴女》のみである。4代の王に仕え，王侯貴族を描き，油絵《アンリ2世像》(1559)，素描《シャルル9世像》(1566)をはじめ彼の作と推定される作品は数多く存在する。…
