Manufacturing Automation Protocol : A communication control procedure for factory networks to automate production. It was proposed by General Motors in the United States in 1980 as a communication standard for building a comprehensive production system that linked all computers, robots, etc. in a factory to a communication network and centrally managed everything from design to manufacturing and shipping. The company called on related companies to unify the standard, but ultimately failed to achieve this.
