The main diseases of the optic nerve include papilledema, optic neuritis, and optic atrophy. (1) Papilledema is a passive, non-inflammatory swelling of the optic optic nerve caused by some cause. When caused by increased intracranial pressure due to a brain tumor, it is called a choked disc. When examined with an ophthalmoscope, the optic optic nerve is found to be red and swollen.
