Agriotes fuscicollis (English name)

Japanese: トビイロムナボソコメツキ（英語表記）Agriotes fuscicollis

An insect of the family Elateridae in the order Coleoptera. The adult body is dark brown with yellow hairs on the surface. The front of the head, the area around the pronotum, both sides of the elytra and the meeting point are reddish brown to light brown. The antennae and legs are yellowish brown. Body length is about 8.5 mm. It is distributed in Hokkaido and Honshu, and the larvae generally live in poorly drained soil. The larvae are elongated, cylindrical, light yellow with thoracic legs. The end of the body is conical and folds backwards. When fully grown, the body length is about 19 mm. Around July to August, they build a pupal chamber in the soil and pupate. The newly emerged adults overwinter there and emerge the following spring.

甲虫目コメツキムシ科の昆虫。成虫の体は暗褐色で表面に黄色毛がある。頭部の前方，前胸背の周辺，上翅の両側と会合部は赤褐色から淡褐色。触角，脚は黄褐色。体長8.5mm内外。北海道，本州に分布し，幼虫は一般に排水のよくない土壌中に生息する。幼虫は胸脚をもつ細長い円筒形で淡黄色。体の末端は円錐形で後方へとがる。十分に成長したものは体長19mm内外。7～8月ころ，土壌中に蛹室（ようしつ）をつくって蛹化，羽化した新成虫はそのまま越冬し，翌春になって出現する。
