In the Earth's magnetosphere, which is filled with high-temperature plasma, various electromagnetic waves specific to plasma are observed, including magnetohydrodynamic waves such as Alfven waves, Whistler waves, and electrostatic plasma waves. The frequencies of these waves span a wide range, from approximately 10 -3 Hz to 10 6 Hz. Waves in the lowest frequency band, below approximately 5 Hz, have long been known as geomagnetic pulsations. Pulsation phenomena with periods of tens of seconds or more (below tens of mHz) are mainly caused by the natural vibration of magnetic field lines excited by magnetosonic waves generated by deformation of the magnetopause boundary surface due to the solar wind.
