Japanese: オオルリオサムシ - おおるりおさむし

An insect of the family Carabidae (illustration) in the order Coleoptera. It is found in the plains and mountains of Hokkaido. The dorsal surface of the adult varies in color, from golden green to reddish copper to dark purple. The head and thorax have a metallic luster, but the elytra are uneven with raised stripes and punctation, making the luster dull. Body length is 25-35 mm. Due to the variations in color and unevenness, it is divided into several subspecies, and its distribution is localized. In plains, this species prefers the slightly dry hills surrounding them rather than wetlands, and in mountainous areas, it prefers ridges and mountainsides rather than valleys. All of these areas are grasslands or sparse forests with undergrowth.
