...the limbs tend to degenerate in inverse proportion to the length of the cylindrical body, and some species that burrow into the sand lack their forelimbs. For example, the southern European long-legged lizard, Chalcides chalcides, has extremely small limbs and is similar in shape to a legless lizard. The Australian Schmidt's two-legged lizard, Lerista karlschmidti , lacks forelimbs, and the Arnhem two-legged lizard, L. stylis , of the same genus, has vestigial snake-like hind limbs.
