A town in the Sarthe department in northwestern France, facing the Loire River (a tributary of the Loire). Population 14,752 (1982). The Jesuit school, the Collège Henri IV, was founded by King Henry IV in 1604, where Descartes, Mersenne and others studied, but since 1808 it has been the French Military Academy. The Baroque-style Saint-Louis Chapel, built by the Jesuit architect Martellange (real name Étienne Ange Martel (1569-1641)), is also located within the campus. フランス北西部,サルト県の町。ロアール川Loir(ロアール川Loireの支流)に臨む。人口1万4752(1982)。1604年アンリ4世が創設したイエズス会の学校のアンリ4世学院があり,デカルト,メルセンヌらがここに学んだが,1808年以後はフランス陸軍幼年学校になっている。なおその構内にはイエズス会の建築家マルテランジュMartellange(本名Étienne Ange Martel(1569‐1641))の建てたバロック様式の聖ルイ礼拝堂がある。
