Japanese: catchup

...A type of sauce made by adding various seasonings and spices to tomatoes, mushrooms, walnuts, etc. Also written as catchup or catsup. It seems to have originated from the infusion of salted fish and shellfish that has long been used as a seasoning in areas from Southeast Asia to southern China. In the area around Xiamen, Fujian Province, China, this type of fish sauce is called ketchup, and there are similar words in various places.
